Professional Help

I know exactly what happens when you type “Therapist” in to Google.

Irrespective of where I sit in that exhaustive list, this is what I can offer.

I’m a BABCP accredited Psychotherapist with over 25 years experience.  I specialise in a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  I also offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Are you struggling with life, feeling overwhelmed and out of control ?  Have you experienced loss or trauma and don’t seem to be able to move on ? Does this impact negatively on your job, relationships and family ? On a long NHS waiting list ? Finding professional help could be the first step to helping you get your life back on track.

Do you need space to catch up with yourself ?  Or a space to gain clarity and develop new coping strategies ? Looking for ways to relax ? Lift your mood and build your confidence ?  The stress of everyday life can be challenging, you don’t have to struggle alone.

I can help you to understand why you may have developed your current difficulties and what keeps them going.   I can also help you develop effective coping strategies so that you feel more in control and lead a more fulfilling life.  I have been working for 17 years in the NHS providing CBT, counselling and supervision.  Working in the NHS I have specialised in  helping people overcome anxiety, low mood and relationship difficulties.

What to Expect

What I Do

Deciding to have therapy is often a big step. My role as your Psychotherapist is to support this process by understanding your experience and by creating a safe space to talk without fear of judgement. Therapy is an opportunity to learn CBT and Mindful Skills that make a difference.  CBT Sessions will be structured and you will be supported to try out new ways of handling difficulties.  Counselling sessions will allow you to talk about your feelings, as speaking out loud about your problems can help put your thoughts in order.  Our first meeting will allow you to ask the questions you need answers to and I will explain how therapy can help you overcome your difficulties.

I specialise in providing short term therapy.   Short term therapy can range from as little as 3 sessions up to 12  sessions.  As an experienced therapist I am equally familiar at working with issues that are more deep rooted and offer longer term therapy when required.

Some benefits of therapy

Some benefits of CBT and Counselling

  • Develop self confidence
  • Feel less alone with your problems
  • See your thoughts from a different perspective
  • In this busy world, time set aside to acknowledge and handle feelings better
  • Helping you to clarify whats important to you – your values – then use that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you to change your life for the better
  • Teaching you psychological skills to deal with your painful thoughts and feelings in such a way that they have much less impact on you (these are known as mindfulness skills)
  • Improve your physical wellbeing, such as more energy, sounder sleep and a better appetite.

Taking the first step

Taking the first steps

As everyone of us is unique, I believe one type of therapy does not fit all.  I am able to draw upon my many years of training and experience in different models of therapy to provide you with a space that feels warm, supportive and that is tailored to your individual needs.  My approach is one that validates peoples experience, there is no issue too small, too large or too strange to bring.

I appreciate how important it is to find the right therapist with whom you feel comfortable. With this in mind, I offer all new clients a free 15 minute telephone consultation on 07800526735 to discuss what you would like to achieve from the sessions and how I can facilitate this.
